PELION NEA ANCHIALOS The sights and history of Nea Anchialos

Nea Anchialos has been built on the ruins of ancient Pyrasos, of Achaia Phthiotida (town of Demeter and Protessilaos ) life of which ends in 217 BC when destroyed by Philip the 5th . In its debris a new city has been developed, Phthiotides Thives, which reached to a high culture, artistic and spiritual pick by the end of the 7th century, as the most important Christian center of area. Long lasting excavation brought into light a variety of buildings among them many churches, public buildings, baths, baptisteries and a big number of mosaic floors which were decoration of the buildings. All these can be seen on the active archaeological excavations in Nea Anchialos and in Volos archaeological museum.
